Shoe Care

General Care

Leather, suede, nubuck and hair on cow hide are all natural productions. Slight marks and variations in the surface colour and texture are an inherent characteristic and should not be mistaken as a fault. They are part of the unique appeal of leather.

To help maintain the appearance and prolong the life of your purchase they should be cared for with the relevant products. Use a shoe horn to prevent damage to the back of your Mileno/Plush shoes. Always test any cleaning/protection products on a small non visible area first. There might be a slight change in colour and handle with wear and cleaning.

Fabric

We recommend printed fabric shoes are sprayed with a fabric protector spray before wear and then on a regular basis. If the item gets wet, dry naturally and reapply another coat of protector spray. AVOID rubbing with a brush – MUST CLEAN with a soft, slightly damp cloth, crepe brush or fabric foam cleaner.

Suede and Nubuck

These leathers have a fine nap so please take extra care when cleaning. Dust and dirt should be removed before cleaning. We recommend using either a crepe brush or a suede/nubuck block to remove marks. A suede brush is too harsh. Protect the suede/nubuck with a protector spray before wear and then on a regular basis.

Leather

Dust and dirt should be removed before cleaning. Use either a shoe polish or cream, if you find it hard to find the correct colour please use a neutral. Specialist leather cleaning products are recommended.

Pony (hair on cow hide)

  • The leather keeps all its natural hair thanks to a special tanning process.
  • Any colour shades are due to the authenticity of the leather.
  • Variations will naturally occur from skin to skin, as well as different areas within the skin.
  • A print on the hair is an imitation of an animal’s markings.
  • The patterns are naturally random and are reflected in the product.
  • Any variations should be treated as a natural characteristic.
  • Every attempt has been made to match pairs as closely as possible.
  • This leather may lose its texture in areas where strong or continual rubbing occurs, so we recommend that you avoid repeated contact with another surface – ie driving when the back of the shoe rubs on the floor.
  • AVOID rubbing with a brush – CLEAN ONLY with a soft, slightly damp cloth.

Insoles

Insoles on mules and sandals may lift due to heat and perspiration. This is an unavoidable consequence of normal wear, but can be remedied by re-sticking, a very simple job by any reputable shoe repairer.

Heels

Top pieces (heel pieces) on the heels are repairable component. DO NOT ALLOW THEM TO WEAR DOWN. They should be replaced regularly by a reputable shoe repairer. Thin and delicate heels must be worn with extra consideration. Wearing on very uneven, abrasive surfaces when driving may weaken the heels and could spoil the leather, sole or intricate components.

Trims / Embellishments

Embellishments on shoes with crystals, beads and sequins are especially delicate. Particular care must be taken whilst wearing and cleaning decorated shoes. Beads and trims maybe lost or damaged if caught or snagged. If there are spare trims provided it is possible to repair/replace the damaged trim. Please keep hold of the spare trims as it is not always possible to replace them later.
