Mileno shoes launch the Olympic Uniform
As the official fashion footwear supplier to the Australian Olympic Team for the 2008 Beijing Games, Mileno revealed their designs at the official uniform launch at the Andrew “Boy” Charlton Swimming Pool in Sydney on Friday, 29th of February.
Together with Sportscraft – who designed the apparel for the uniform – Mileno showcased the complete formal outfit with the assistance of Olympic athletes, Jane Saville, Ky Hurst, Elise Rechichi, Tessa Parkinson, Lachie Milne and Mark Bellofiore.
At the launch, Mileno directors Truddy and Kenneth were asked by Johanna Griggs; “What was the key design consideration when designing shoes for elite athletes?”
Truddy responded; “There were many mechanical and aesthetic factors to be considered. Comfort is the foremost concern because the athletes don’t get any time to ‘break-in’ their shoes, therefore they have to mould to the foot from the first wear. Secondly, they must also complement the uniform and be on track with current fashion trends.”
Kenneth said that Mileno’s association with the Olympic team highlighted their philosophy that “to be the best, you need to work with the best.” He went on to add... “These athletes are just that. We are very honoured to be working with individuals who excel so highly in their field.”
Johanna also joked with Kenneth about the size of the athlete’s feet and Kenneth replied; “Many of the guys thought their feet were bigger than what they actually were. In actual fact I was like ‘mate, you’re an 11, not 14!’”.
The launch was a great success for Mileno and the Australian Olympic hopefuls. Mileno had only a positive response from the athletes wearing their shoes and fashion critics alike.

“I’ve been in these shoes for four hours and they’re great” – Olympic Walker, Jane Saville.
